KIDS Ph.D. Scholar Achieves Best Scientific Paper Award at International Conference
A Ph.D. Scholar of KIDS Lt. Col. Saravanan SP has achieved the best scientific paper award at an International Conference on 110th Annual Meeting of American Academy of Periodontology held in Sandiego, USA from 31st October to 04th November, 2024.
The International Conference was attended by delegates from 32 different countries around the world. A total of approximately 3000 delegates attended the conference. There were a series of keynote lectures on various topics in the field of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry. Lt Col Saravanan SP has presented a poster in the category of Innovations in Periodontics which was selected on spot for final presentation before the jury as a full paper. The topic of the presentation was ‘Panel of CD34, CD105 and Vimentin in immuno-histochemical and histomorphometric analysis for the prognostic evaluation of oral potentially malignant lesions’.
The full paper was presented by Lt Col Saravanan SP, who received the best paper award titled ‘Rising Star Award’ for the year 2024 by American Academy of Periodontology. The meeting was instrumental in developing new concepts that can significantly enhance practice. It provided a unique opportunity to gain insights into current technologies being utilized in other countries, broadening the understanding of global advancements in periodontology. The opportunity to interact with international speakers provided profound insights into the latest advancements in related fields. Particularly noteworthy was the corporate forum, which offered a comprehensive overview of newer biomaterials that are currently unavailable in India. Understanding these innovations not only enhances knowledge but also positions them to better serve patients.
The meeting was extremely useful in helping to understand the contemporary periodontal and peri-implant surgical procedures and their applications in the postgraduate teaching departments and in routine practice. The event covered a wide range of metrics, from student engagement to teaching quality. The perspectives of various faculties from various colleges and universities across the United States and other countries; who were experts with decades of postgraduate teaching experience, helped to learn a few interesting contemporary ideas to the teaching establishments. The meeting also facilitated significant interaction with faculty members from across various universities. The meeting provided a wealth of knowledge, particularly regarding new surgical techniques that can be directly applied in periodontal practice. The insights gained from leading experts in the field will not only enhance current practices but also improve patient outcomes significantly.
