Harvard Medical School Professor visits KIIT
Prof. Vijay Kuchroo, Glen Chair of Immunology, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, visited KIIT University recently. During his visit, he met the Hon’ble Founder, Prof. Achyuta Samanta, along with Prof. Narinder K. Mehra, Scientific Advisor (R&D), KIMS; Prof. Gopal Kundu, Director R&D, KIIT ; Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice-Chancellor; and other senior faculty members.
Prof. Kuchroo attended the Global Immunology Summit (GIS 2026), jointly organized by the School of Biotechnology, KIIT University, and the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, and was accompanied by Prof. Narinder K. Mehra. The summit was attended by several distinguished scientists from KIIT University, including Prof. Srinivasa Pattnaik, Dr. Abhijna Gupta (Co-Convener, GIS 2026), Prof. Gopal Kundu, and Prof. Narinder K. Mehra.
Prof. Kuchroo has made remarkable contributions to the field of immunology and immunotherapy. He was the first to describe TIM-3 as a potent immune checkpoint inhibitor and has recently discovered the role of Dark RNAs in immune regulation.
The Hon’ble Founder warmly welcomed Prof. Kuchroo and accompanying delegates. Insightful and impactful discussions were held on the activities and vision of KIIT University and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) as dynamic institutions engaged in education and training, particularly for tribal children. The discussions highlighted the unique opportunities provided by KISS, including free education, residential facilities, nutrition, healthcare, and exposure to various academic, cultural, and sports activities.
The visiting scientists were also given the opportunity to visit the KISS campus and interact with the students, making the visit both academically enriching and socially meaningful.
Prof. Kuchroo expressed his appreciation for KIIT and KISS and indicated his intention to return for future academic engagements.
