NSS Unit of KIIT SME and SAE Hosts Orientation Programme for Newly Inducted Volunteers on “Be the Change – NSS is Your Platform”

The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the School of Mechanical Engineering (SME) and the School of Aerospace Engineering (SAE), KIIT DU organized an orientation “Be the Change- NSS is your Platform”.

The aim of conducting the Programme was to acquaint the newly recruited volunteers with the vision, objectives, and principles of the NSS, and to inspire them to actively engage in community service and nation-building activities.”

Dr. Smruti Ranjan Das, NSS Liaison Officer, KIIT-DU, outlined the fundamentals of NSS and its various activities. He presented a catalogue of opportunities, roles and responsibilities for the newly recruited volunteers and emphasized the core values of unity, discipline, and leadership, highlighting how these values contribute to nation-building and societal development.

Dr. Debjyoti Sahu, Associate Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, KIIT, emphasized the significance of social work and outlined the various benefits of joining NSS.

Dr. Mrutyunjay Jena, Dean of the School of Aerospace Engineering, KIIT, highlighted the importance of student activities beyond academics and how they help shape students to face society, address social issues, and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Samaresh Mishra, Director, KSS, KIIT-DU, who highlighted the importance of problem-solving skills and social work. He emphasized the need for students to acquire not only proper education but also strong human values, and urged them to develop the ability to adapt to different situations.

A formal pledge-taking ceremony was conducted to induct the new volunteers into NSS, followed by a motivational video showcasing the journey of the NSS unit of SME and SAE.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Smita Rani Panda, Programme Officer, NSS Unit of SME and SAE. She congratulated the newly recruited volunteers on joining the NSS, encouraging them to contribute noble work to society, and expressed her gratitude to the organizing committee and volunteers for their dedicated support in making the event a success

The closing segment featured a captivating classical performance that held the audience spellbound. This was followed by a skit presented by the volunteers, which fondly revisited past activities such as the slum visit to raise awareness about the importance of voting, the BIS event, and the orphanage visit. Adding to the vibrancy, the skit also included an energetic dance performance by the volunteers. The programme concluded with the National Anthem, offering a solemn and patriotic closure to the event.

The NSS Orientation Programme proved to be a resounding success, instilling in the volunteers a strong sense of responsibility, commitment to service, and heightened social awareness.
