M.SC Nursing 1st year Child Health Nursing specialty students of Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS) conducted an In-service education on 3rd July, 2025 with the theme of “From Womb To Warmth : Benefits of Skin Contact ”. The aim of this program was to enlighten the importance of early initiation of skin to skin contact after immediate delivery for maintenance of thermo-regulation, initiation of early breastfeeding ,& promotion of mother- child bonding.
The program was commenced by Ms. Shreya Banerjee with introduction & unfolding the theme of in-service education program . The session was continued by Ms. Tapaswini Jena , discussed about the benefits of this early initiation of skin to skin contact for both mother and newborn, followed by a talk on methods of Skin to skin contact & the assessment by Ms. Pallavi Nayak. Then a theme based live demonstration was carried out by Ms. Sukanya Bhattacharya & Ms. Shreyasi Lal with the involvement of nursing officers of NICU and O & G department, KIMS Hospital.
At the end, a good interactive session was carried out with the audience. This program was attended by around 40 numbers of participants including Nursing officers, ward In- charges of labour room, postnatal ward and NICU, along with faculties of Child Health Nursing department, KINS. It was indeed successful with positive feedback from the audience.
Prof.(Dr.) Niyati Das, Principal-cum-HOD, Child Health Nursing department, KINS, addressed the gathering and advocated the practice of immediate skin to skin contact of newborn after delivery in the clinical setup. The program was successfully wrapped up with a vote of thanks by Ms. Shreya Banerjee.
