KIMS Microbiology PhD Scholars Awarded in the 1st Annual Research Summit 2025

Two PhD scholars, Ms. Swetapadma Jena, and Ms. Swarupa Mohapatra, Department of Microbiology, KIMS have been awarded the Best Poster Award in the Annual Research Summit, with the theme on Convergence of Science, Society and Sustainability, at the KIIT Convention Centre, held on 7-8 Match 2025, Organized by the Research and Development of KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Ms. Swetapadma Jena presented her research on “Prevalence and Genotype distribution of Human Papillomavirus in women with and without cervical neoplasia in Odisha”. Swetapadma’s work was mentored by Prof. Dipti Pattnaik (Chief Supervisor), Dr. A. Raj Kumar Patro, (Co-Supervisor), Prof. Jyochnamayee Panda (Prof. & Head, Obstetrics & Gynaecology), Prof. Ranjana Giri (Prof. & Head, Pathology), Dr. Jyotirmayee Turuk (RMRC Bhubaneswar), Dr. Sanghamitra Pati (Additional Director General, ICMR New Delhi), and Prof. Chaitali Pattnayak, Faculty I/C PhD program, KIMS.

The work presented by Ms. Swarupa Mohapatra, was on “Pathogen distribution, antimicrobial resistance and associated risk factors of early onset sepsis and late onset sepsis in neonates: A cross-sectional analysis from a tertiary care neonatal intensive care unit”. Ms. Swarupa’s work was mentored by Prof. Subhra Snigdha Panda (Chief Supervisor), Prof. Nipa Singh (Co-Supervisor), Prof. Manas Kumar Nayak (Pediatrics), Prof. Santosh Kumar Panda (Pediatrics), Prof. Jyochnamayee Panda (Obstetrics & Gynaecology) and Prof. Ipsa Mohapatra (Community Medicine).

The event attracted a gathering of distinguished academicians, industry leaders, researchers, faculty members, PhD scholars from across India and abroad. The Plenary Talk was given by Prof. (Dr.) Nirmal K. Ganguly, former Director General, ICMR and Prof. Indranil Manna, Vice Chancellor, BIT Mesra. Ms. Swetapadma and Swarupa’s presentation garnered widespread praise and was esteemed by both the delegates and judges at the Conference.

Ms. Swetapadma and Swarupa received awards in presence of Prof. Saranjit Singh (Vice-Chancellor), Dr. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty (Registrar), Professor Debashis Bandyopadhyay, (Vice Chancellor KISS-DU), Prof. P.P. Mathur, (Former Vice-Chancellor), Prof. Suresh C. Satapathy (Director, Doctoral Research Publications), Prof. Ashok K. Sahoo (Director R& D, technology), Prof. Gopal C. Kundu (Director, R & D) and Prof. Sudarsan Nanda (Advisor R & D) of KIIT DU.
