KIIT School of Civil Engineering Hosts Debate Competition

KIIT School of Civil Engineering in association with KSCE, NSS Builders, ICE Student Chapter and ASCE Student Chapter organized a Virtual Debate Competition 2021 on 7th November 2021. The competition was presided by Dr. Benu Gopal Mohapatra, Director, Consultancy Services & Faculty Advisor, ICE KIIT Student Chapter; Dr. Sanjib Moulick, Dean, School of Civil Engineering; Dr. Kshyana Prava Samal, Faculty Incharge, KSCE; and Dr. Purnachandra Saha, Faculty Advisor, ASCE KIIT Student Chapter. The judges for the competition were Mr. Aditya Divyadarshi, Senior Subject Matter Expert, Chegg and Mr. Debarshi Sahoo, Founder & Structural Engineer, Deyan Infratech.

The anchors, Shinjini, Diplov and Aditya informed the participants about the rules and marking criteria of the competition. The first debate was on the topic “Colonization on Mars or Making Earth a Better Place to live”. Prachi Shandilya spoke against the motion, while Abhishek Soren spoke for the motion. The next topic “5G: A Problem or Solution” had Rajnesh for the motion and Amita Patra against the motion.

The first topic in the ‘Pair Round’, which had teams of two, was “Should public execution be implemented?”. Simant Soren and Ishfaq Ahmed spoke against the motion, while Akash Chakraborty and Jyoti Sahoo were for the motion. The last topic was “Are Gender protective measures being advantaged upon?”. Speaking for the motion were Shinjini Das and Harsh Kejriwal, while Sumi Kumari and Pratik Dutta were against the motion.

The event was moderated by Hitesh Kumar, Navasree Das, Ritabrata Chakraborty, Anushka Choudhary, Shubhra Sharma, Harshit Kishlay, Sayan Hati and Kaushik Nayak. Prachi Shandilya, Amita Patra, Simant Soren & Ishfaq Ahmed and Sumi Kumari & Pratik Dutta were adjudged winners for their respective topics. The event concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Purnachandra Saha, Faculty Advisor, ASCE KIIT Student Chapter.
