The School of Humanities, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Deemed to be University, organised an International Webinar on ‘Environmental Humanities: Narratives and Critical Practices’ on 10th December, 2020. The webinar aimed tosensitize youth about the ecological concerns by teaching them literature concerning the environment and to offer learners first-hand knowledge of nature to help them develop their own perception.

The event was graced by Prof. Hrushikesh Mohanty, VC, KIIT-DU; Prof. S. Nanda, Head Research and Professor of Eminence; Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar; and Prof. S. C. Swain, Associate Dean and Webinar Advisor, KIIT School of Humanities. Prof. Maria Sabina Draga Alexandru, Associate Professor of English/American Studies, University of Bucharest and Prof. Priyanka Tripathi, Associate Professor of English, IIT Patna were the guest speakers.

Prof. Alexandru explained the relevance of environmental humanities in the present pandemic situation, the intertwined nature with humanity reflecting an amalgamation of the masculine and the feminine components, etc. According to her, we live under an illusion that we can fix the climatic changes, but, in fact, it is getting worse. Very careful deliberate measures are required to rectify the issues related to environmental changes, she asserted.

In her soul searching talk on ‘From Ecology to Spirituality’, Prof. Tripathi reflected on the interconnection between ecology and humanity. The Technical session was chaired by Prof. Itishri Sarangi, Convenor and Prof. Deepanjali Mishra, KSOH, while it was moderated by Mrs. Shalini Mohapatra, Research Scholar.

Earlier, the webinar started with a welcome note by Prof. Itishri Sarangi, Convenor and the word of thanks by Prof. Swapnamoyee Palit, KSOH and co-convenor.
