“We must emphasize challenging the status quo and creating precedence for women which have been remained bleak continually even after seventy years after independence,”

said Sharmila Tagore, renowned Bollywood Actress in gracing the International Women’s Day Celebrations as the Chief Guest at KIIT Convention Centre Today.

Status quo and the attitude towards feminine gender have been at stake since long. However it could have been better if the mindset of men would be changed. The reality is that the feudal mindset still has not been changed. That’s why Equitable  Society still remains a distance dream, added Mrs. Tagore.

She elaborated that, during the last couple of years, there have been  significant changes in empowerment of women across the domains. However, the girls continue to suffer from injustice. To empower girls  is not enough. Rather it requires to challenge the feudal perception of masculinity. Instead of enacting the laws, stringent enforcement of the existing laws are the need of the hour.

In her presidential address,  Smt. Saswati Bal, president, KIIT and KISS said that women in our society live always  with fear. “Nurture confidence and courage and prove yourselves competent enough at par with your male counterparts. Today is yours day and therefore make a resolution to be winner,” she advised to the women staff and students present on the occasion.

Introducing the session,  Dr. Monalisha Bal, the Chairperson of KiiT International School said that the journey of Sharmila Tagore from Bengali Cinema to Hindi Cinema has been mind-blowing.

Prof. Hrushikesha Mohanty, VC, KIIT-DU said,  the future lies with women because they groom generations  to come. In this context, he remarked that, KIIT has set equal opportunity for women in letter and spirit.

In her address, Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Registrar, KIIT Deemed University debated on the necessity of  celebrating the Women’s Day, when the Gender Equality has been remained under cold storage, though the issue has  been evolving around  the world. She however was optimistic that the time has come for the women fraternity to  take the challenge. History bears testimony to memorable instances of women’s leadership. On this occasion, the souvenir ‘KIRTI’, published by the students community of KIIT  was unveiled by the Guests.
